Day 1: Depart USA
Day 2: Amsterdam/Arusha
Welcome to Tanzania! On arrival you will be met by Safari Legacy and will be transferred to the Lake Duluti Serena Lodge for overnight.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park & Cultural Village Visit / Ngorongoro Highlands
Today your journey takes you to Lake Manyara National Park. As you drive west across the Maasai plains toward Lake Manyara National Park, it occurs a dramatic change in habitat as grasslands give way to ground-water forest featuring sausage trees and strangler figs. Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake, one of the many in the Rift Valley. Enjoy a traditional lunch and interpretive excursion of the village of Mto Wa Mbu. After lunch you will have an afternoon game drive in the park before traveling to the Ngorongoro Highlands where you will overnight at the Country Lodge, located in Karatu. (B/L/D)
Day 4: Lake Eyasi & Hadzabe Bushman
After breakfast, travel to the shores of Lake Eyasi, where you will have a special opportunity to participate in daily activities of the Hadzabe. Share in the day-to-day lives of one of the last hunter-gatherer groups in Africa – the Hadzabe Bushmen. The Hadzabe use an ancient dialect that is similar to the clicking tribe of South Africa. This evening we travel to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge located on the crater’s rim. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, we will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the Earth’s largest unbroken caldera. A veritable “Garden of Eden”, the Crater is reputed to contain the highest density of carnivores, which includes cheetah, leopard and lion. This is the only place in East Africa where one can easily observe a natural population of black rhino. Enjoy a full day in the crater with picnic lunch. Late afternoon return to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. (B/L/D)
Day 6: Olduvai Gorge / Central Serengeti National Park
This morning we depart for the Serengeti National Park stopping en-route at the Olduvai Gorge - A river canyon cutting 300 ft into the volcanic Serengeti plains, once home to our earliest ancestors. Their remains can still be found nestling in the exposed soils. After a picnic lunch at Naabi gate, you descend to the Serengeti Plains. Part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, the Serengeti ensures year round access to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing on earth. Overnight Serengeti Serena Lodge (B/L/D).
Day 7 & 8: Central Serengeti National Park & Western Corridor
Enjoy two full days with morning and afternoon game drives. Overnight Serengeti Serena Lodge (B/L/D)
Day 9: Fly to Arusha / Depart this evening on KLM
After breakfast you will fly back to Arusha. (Max luggage weight limit is 33 pounds per person. On arrival enjoy a farewell lunch at the Cultural Heritage Center and Museum. A dayroom has been provided for you at the Lake Duluti Serena until your transfer to the airport for departure flight.
Day 10: Arrive US via Amsterdam
